The class of 2016 is already making a name
for themselves. This year, 300 students came
to St. Francis DeSales High School to take
the Freshman Entrance Exam. As a result
of this test, as well as a careful review of
each student’s academic record, the class of
2016 is 245 strong, a 15% student increase
from last year. Seven students received
a $3,000 St. Francis de Sales renewable
merit scholarship, twenty-four earned a
$1,000 Franciscan Sisters renewable
merit scholarship, and fifteen additional
scholarships were awarded to our newest
members of the Stallion family, totaling an
impressive
$66,750 in scholarship money.
Over the past three years, SFD has seen a steady
increase in enrollment. Since 2010, our incoming
freshmen classes have increased 28%.

Technology Talks
With digital devices and digital media finding their place in schools, St. Francis DeSales High School has embraced
this societal trend with the addition of a new Director of Technology Instruction, Mr. Ben McGinnis. With McGinnis’
fresh outlook on today’s technology, along with expertise from the school’s Director of Technology Services, Mr. Jeff
Stevens, SFD will see many changes over the next two years.
SFD has invested in the implementation of an entirely wireless campus that will be ready for Fall ’12. With cutting
edge Wi-Fi network hardware and management services, the SFD community will be able to interact with technology
throughout the campus, which includes the athletic fields. The school has also begun planning a 1:1 iPad program
for students set to begin Fall ’13; the faculty program will begin this fall. The changes at SFD are not only about iPads
however, SFD has also invested in a state-of-the-art Apple technology lab that will house brand new iMacs, MacBook
Airs, MacBook Pros, and Mac Mini Servers. The administration, faculty, and staff believe that education is becoming
increasingly more digital each day, and technological literacy for our students is absolutely essential. Using the Apple
lab, faculty and students at SFD will be able to use Apple’s iBooks Author to publish handbooks, guides, and books for
effortless distribution to the school’s 1:1 iPads.
Beginning this fall, Mr. McGinnis will also teach five classes, which will cover topics on web technology, law, computer
science, and media productions. The department of Computer and Information Sciences has been designed to enrich
and expand the students’ technological literacy through the exploration of technology with continued attention paid
to contemporary social and cultural responses. Projects Mr. McGinnis plans to incorporate include creating apps,
website design, and operating a live sports network. With technology playing a vital role today, SFD continues to
provide tools for students to thrive after graduation...
