Fall Sports Highlights
Girls Soccer
After winning last
year’s Division II
State Championship,
the Lady Stallions
set out to achieve
the unthinkable--a
repeat. The regular
season posed various
challenges to the defending champs, but they got hot
when they needed it most, winning the District and
Regional Championships for the second straight year
en route to a State Championship game birth against
a very talented Walsh Jesuit program. Although
the ladies came up short of a second straight state
championship, they made a truly inspiring run through
the playoffs, finishing the season with a 15-8-1 record.
Senior co-captain Courtney Klosterman earned 1st
Team All State honors for the second straight year, and
was named Division II Player of the Year; fellow co-
captain senior Kerry McGuire was named 1st team All
District. Also earning awards were Maria Riley, Hannah
Clark, and Alvi Shively, who–along with McGuire and
Klosterman–were named First Team All CCL. Shively
and Klosterman earned Columbus Dispatch “Player
of the Week”
honors for their
performance
during the fall
campaign.
Girls Volleyball
The Volleyball
team exploded
on the fall sports
scene with its
best season
since 2004,
winning the Regional championship and making it to
the Division II Semifinals. Although the Lady Stallions
lost to eventual state champ Cleveland Beaumont in 4
sets, they put together a most impressive 26-3 overall
record, going 20-2 in the regular season and capturing
the title in a very competitive CCL with a league record
of 7-1. In addition to their success on the court, the
girls on the varsity squad maintained an impressive
overall GPA of 3.76. Winning postseason honors were
Bella Guanciale (1st Team All State and All CCL), Erika
Brown (1st Team All District and All CCL), and Kenya
Cason (2nd Team All District and 1st Team All CCL).
Coach Kelly Morgan also earned District 10 Co-Coach
of the Year Honors.
Girls Tennis
The girls tennis
team improved on
their 2012 season,
finishing with a
record of 7-9, with
a number of close
matches decided
by a score of
3-2. Senior Sarah
Schockling qualified
for the District tournament for the first time in her
career and senior My Linh Li, who won a state doubles
championship her freshman year with sister Kim My Li,
finished as Runner-up in the State Singles tournament.
In addition to Li and Schockling, the Lady Stallions
graduate 3 additional seniors (Lauren Asman, Isabelle
Ocampo, Chandler Starkey) and look to rebuild with a
fine young junior varsity program.
