Fall Sports Highlights
Boys Soccer
With only seven returning varsity
players on the 2012 squad, the team
was very young and inexperienced,
but still managed to score 40 goals,
with only 25 goals allowed. Despite
the team’s immaturity, the schedule
remained extremely difficult. Playing
many of the top teams in the state
resulted in an overall team record
of 8-7-4. The difficult schedule
well-prepared the team for the
tournament, with the program
making it to its sixth district final.
Unfortunately, this year’s team did not
advance after a tough match against
Bexley. Many team members received
honors, including 1st and 2nd team
All CCL, 1st and 2nd team All district,
1st team All district, and senior Jack
Flora named 1st Team All State.
Football
The football squad finished the 2012
season with a 5-5 record. Having lost
a lot of starters to graduation, the
Stallions faced additional adversity
with a tough regular season schedule
and a heartbreaking triple overtime
loss to rival Watterson. Keeping the
streak alive, the Football Stallions
did beat St. Charles for its 37th
consecutive victory. Alex Perrine,
LaShaun Sanders, Chris Ritter,
Michael Hippler, J.T. Blubaugh, Oliver
Grimard, and Sayyid Kanu earned 1st
Team All CCL Honors, with Grimard
and Kanu also receiving 1st Team All
District recognition.
Girls Cross Country
The girls finished their season with a
57-34 record. Recording a key win
at the Northland Invitational, the
girls finished a close second at the
Central Catholic League meet, with
Michelle Seiffert, Kristin
Faulkner, and Andrea Coffey
earning All League Honors
for their finishes. The girls
went on to score their best
finish of the season, placing
6th at the Division I District
meet. Michelle Seiffert
earned All-District recognition and
a trip to the Regional meet with
her performance. Losing seniors
Michelle Seiffert and Kara Hoying will
be significant, but a deep freshman
class holds great promise for the
2013 season.
Boys Cross Country
The boys ran to a 63-35 record
and a 3rd place finish at the CCL
championships. Ian Lawson’s 5th
place finish earned him All League
honors. Dylan Griffin, Thomas
Gorman, and Creighton Barrett
received 2nd team All League
honors. The boys qualified for
Regionals by placing 4th at the 2012
District meet; junior Ian Lawson
earned All District honors for his 10th
place finish. With the Stallions losing
only Dylan Griffin to graduation, next
season looks to be very promising for
this young squad.
Boys Golf
Abiding by its motto, “Try your best,
play fair, have fun,” the
2012 Stallions fielded a
young team, consisting of 3
juniors, 4 sophomores, and
a freshman. Among the 8
golfers on the squad, only
5 had previously competed
at the high school level.
Through a great deal of hard
work, the boys improved
from a last place finish in
their first tournament all the way to a
2nd place (out of 18 teams, several
of which were Division I schools), at
the Grove City Invitational. The team
played very well in the Sectional
tournament, missing advancement to
the District tourney by a single stroke.
The 2013 team should benefit from
last season’s
experience
as it sets its
sights on
returning to
States.
Girls Golf
The girls golf
team, which
consisted of
15 players
on 3 squads,
compiled
a 28-35
record. The
team was led by
Angela Patton, who
received Central Ohio
Honorable Mention
and 2nd Team All
League honors.
Kenzie Kotten and
Megan Leach earned
3rd team All League
honors for their
efforts.
