Saturday, June 2, marked the beginning
of a new chapter
for the members of the class of 2012. Family and friends filled the bleachers to
celebrate the academic accomplishments of this special class, cheering as each
graduate was handed their diploma. Principal Garrick presented 200 diplomas in
Alumni Stadium at the early morning Commencement ceremony, with 9 others given
out at Huntington Park after the baseball team won their 2nd consecutive state title
later the same day.
Of the 209 members of this class, 99% will pursue post-secondary education with 1%
pursuing other plans. 30% will attend private institutions, and 69% will attend public
or state institutions. The class had 15 students who achieved a minimum of a 4.1 GPA
and, therefore, achieved the status ofValedictorians. Adding to this classes’ impressive
scholastic success, 50% of the class of 2012 received the Presidential Academic Award
of Excellence, an award given to students who keep an A average over the course of
their four years.
The class of 2012 amassed total scholarship offers of over $12 million.

Through the Advanced Placement (AP) program at SFD, members of the class
of 2012 have earned 223 college credits, which will be applied to their post-
secondary programs of study.
Brad Bohus, a 2012 graduate, is currently
enrolled as a second semester sophomore at Michigan State University due
to the AP credits he earned while in high school.
